Four hundred years. It's a long
time for a nation to be enslaved, but it was how long the
Israelites had toiled in Egypt. They needed someone to lead them
to freedom from their chains. Freedom from their bondage. Freedom
from their oppression.
God gave them Moses.
An early act of divine intervention sent Moses to the house of the
Pharaoh, where he was raised by Pharaoh's daughter. After he grew
up, he became a shepherd in the land of Midian, but God sent him
back to Pharaoh to demand the release of the Israelites. Moses
eventually took them out of Egypt and to the edge of the Promised
Land.
Moses was a phenomenal leader, and God used him to give the
Israelites their very first laws: The Ten Commandments.
